Abstract— A study of heavy minerals in the stream drainage system and geomorphology was made in Manik Urai, Kelantan, by means of field and laboratory works. Laboratory analyses were carried out using Frantz isodynamic separator, microscopy, X-ray diffraction, SEM and point-counting. From the analyses, dominant heavy minerals observed were ilmenite, hornblende, zircon and magnetite while minor and trace minerals were monazite, xenotime, pyrite, mica, allanite, garnet, epidote, tourmaline and cassiterite. Mineralogical compositions of the collected samples indicate that the provenance of the sediments were from varying terrains. Interesting geological features in the area are its hilly-mountainous terrain, and the presence of a cascading waterfall at Lata Rek. The unique geological feature of the area such as its heavy mineral content in the stream drainage system and its beautiful landscape at Lata Rek gives the area the potential of being a geological heritage site which can attract visitors to Kelantan.
