Abstract: A biostratigraphic reinvestigation of 108 SSPC and competitor wells was undertaken in order to review the palaeoenvironments of the Lower Miocene to Pliocene deposits in the offshore NW Sabah area.
The study was integrated with seismostratigraphic data, which defined the positions of the palaeoshelf edge/palaeocoastline, and allowed for more detailed palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. For each stratigraphic interval, palaeoenvironment maps showing the areal distribution of depositional environments were constructed. In addition, detailed biostratigraphie/seismostratigraphic correlation enabled the recognition of four “seismic facies” (base of slope, slope, shelf and coastal plain). Integration with sand distribution data allows the characterisation of the palaeoenvironments/seismic facies in terms of their reservoir potential.
